Sponsor Eligibility & Saint Name Selection Form 2023
The role of sponsor is to see that the confirmed person acts as a true witness to Christ and faithfully fulfills the obligations connected with this sacrament (Code of Canon Law 892). Church law specifies the following requirements for those to be Confirmation sponsors: - Must be at least 16 years of age - Must be baptized - Must have received the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist in the Catholic Church - May not be under canonical penalty - May not be the father or mother of the child. A sponsor may be a grandparent, coach, family friend, aunt/uncle, older sibling, etc. - Must be living a life in harmony with the Faith. This means: - Attends Sunday Mass and Mass on Holy Days of Obligation - Receives Holy Communion and Confession regularly - Supports the mission of the Church - Lives a life of virtue according to the moral teachings of the Church - If married, must be married validly according to the laws of the Catholic Church - If single, is living a chaste life (i.e. not cohabitating or simulating married life) A completed Sponsor Eligibility & Saint Name Selection Form is due by December 3rd, 2023.
