Holy Hour with the Lord

Join us for Eucharistic Adoration and the Sacrament of Confession on the evening before each First Friday of the month from 7-8 p.m. Start the new month by putting God first, praying/worshiping him and then aligning your will with his. We read in scripture about how the plot against Jesus heightens in Matthew, chapter 26. In Gethsemane, "...Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, 'Sit her while I go over there and pray....my soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.'" We know that this was agonizing for our Lord when he prayed, "My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done." We read at the end of this passage how Jesus found his disciples sleeping when he returned, "Couldn't you men keep watch with me for one hour?"

Praying on the first Thursday in adoration can be likened to being with him in the Garden of Gethsemane. Here, we can meditate on the suffering he endured and the ultimate sacrifice he made for us. We can also bring our own sufferings, sorrows, intentions and unite them with Jesus on the Cross. If you've never been to Adoration, here's how it works: The priest or deacon will expose the Blessed Sacrament in the monstrance. We simply come and sit with the Lord. You can pray, read the bible or spiritual book, or just sit quietly in His presence. You can come for the full hour or just sit for a few minutes, whatever fits your schedule. Here are the upcoming dates.
