Sponsor & Saint Name Form 2024
The role of sponsor is to see that the confirmed person acts as a true witness to Christ and faithfully fulfills the obligations connected with this sacrament (Code of Canon Law 892). Church law specifies the following requirements for those to be Confirmation sponsors:
– Must be at least 16 years of age
– Must be baptized
– Must have received the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist in the Catholic Church
– May not be under canonical penalty
– May not be the father or mother of the child. A sponsor may be a grandparent, coach, family friend, aunt/uncle, older sibling, etc.
– Must be living a life in harmony with the Faith. This means:
– Attends Sunday Mass and Mass on Holy Days of Obligation
– Receives Holy Communion and Confession regularly
– Supports the mission of the Church
– Lives a life of virtue according to the moral teachings of the Church
– If married, must be married validly according to the laws of the Catholic Church
– If single, is living a chaste life (i.e. not cohabitating or simulating married life)
A completed Sponsor Eligibility & Saint Name Selection Form is due by November 4, 2024.
